Virtual Dub 1.3c, was the last version to support .asf media files.
To convert .asf to .avi:
Open the .asf video file. After the parse has finished, and the video play boxes appear, set the video to full processing and choose the compression codec you want.
You must do the same with the audio except, after you pick the audio compressor, ( I would pick mpeg level 3 @ 128 / 44100), you pull down the 'conversion' menu and pick the sample rate, in this case, 44100,
then check the boxes-integral conversion and high quality. Then channel, pick stereo-precision, leave alone. click ok.
Pull down the file menu and pick 'save AVI', choose location and give it a name.
The size of the original .asf file will determine the time it takes to produce your new .avi file.
When complete, open the new .avi with your usual video player.
If you are satisfied with your production, you can delete the orignal .asf if you want.
Note..........
If you feel like making your new movie's screen size larger or smaller, or any other editing, I would keep the original just in case something gets screwed up when you edit the .avi.
